Chinese tourists flocked to South Korea during the major Chinese holiday, Korea JoongAng Daily reports.

About 100,000 Chinese tourists flew to South Korea during the week-long Chinese holiday, a 35% increase from last year, The Korea Tourism Organization said. Jeju Island welcomed 33,000 Chinese tourists alone. The holiday also partly coincides with the Korean Chuseok holiday. The steady of influx of tourists filled hotels and inns to the brim; some tourists reportedly had to stay at saunas overnight.

This comes as mounting tensions between China and Japan have resulted in a travel lockdown after tourists cancelled trips between the two countries. The number of Japanese tourists to South Korea has also declined, reflecting tensions between Seoul and Tokyo over the Dokdo Islands, Korea JoongAng Daily reports.
