Just today I arrived in Fisterra (also Finisterre) or the End of the Earth. Almost 100km beyond Santiago de Compostela (the primary destination for most pilgrims), I felt motivated to continue on walking and am so happy to have reached the blue waters of western Spain.

I arrived to find several of my peregrino friends enjoying a café at a local bar and I am awaiting the Alburgue de Peregrino to open where I will take my bunk bed amongst the other dozens of other pilgrims for the night. In accordance with tradition, I have a large rock in my pocket which carries on it a message of what I would like to release in my life.  I will throw it into the ocean from the lighthouse at Faro, I will bathe in the ocean and burn some items that I have carried along ¨The Way¨.

The region of Galicia has been beautiful to walk through with eucalyptus and pine forests giving it quite a different feel from Leon. This final streach of an itinerary traced in the sky by the Milky Way, has been a place rich in pagan rites and rituals. Romans of the 2nd century were struck with wonder when they saw the mighty sun vanish into the sea from Cabo Fisterra (cape Fisterra).

I am thinking of continuing on to Muxia in the coming days and bring to an end 26 days of walking without rest- a journey I will cherish always. I would not be surprised if I find myself back in Europe doing another Camino before long.

Next stop- Portugal…

Peace,

Dani
