21_21 DESIGN SIGHT is now hosting a special exhibition entitled Christo and Jeanne-Claude LIFE=WORKS=PROJECTS. This husband and wife duo was known for their larger-than-life art installations including wrapping the Reichstag (old German parliament building) in Berlin with silver fabric and erecting 7,503 saffron-colored gates in New York’s Central Park. As if they were separated at birth, Christo and Jeanne-Claude were born on the same day in Bulgaria and France, respectively. While Jeanne-Claude passed away just last year, Christo continues to work towards art projects they envisioned together. This special exhibition is a result of the couple’s long friendship with Issey Miyake, and has been compiled by Masahiko Yanagi, a prominent art critic who has been involved in Christo and Jeanne- Claude’s projects for over 25 years. Head over to Tokyo Midtown to get a glimpse of the inspiration and method behind some of their ‘madness.’
