Tsunabi (fireworks and puppet show on ropes in the air) in Tsukubamirai, Ibaraki, is designated as one of the National Intangible Folk Cultural Assets. This is held to ward off disaster by fire, and to pray for an abundant harvest. Tsunabi is displayed from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the precincts of Takaoka Atago Shrine on the 23rd, and in the precincts of Obari Atago Shrine on the 24th.

Puppets are manipulated through guidewires to perform old Japanese plays on a tightrope, to the tune of drums and flutes. Tsunabi end with setting off fireworks.
