Katoh School (Katoh Gakuen in Japanese) is a private school in Numazu-city, Shizuoka-prefecture, Japan. It is owned by the Katoh family and the current president of the school is Dr. Masahide Katoh.
The school is a Japanese national school accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Within Katoh School there are a number of course options. The most prominent of these options is the English Immersion Program.
This is a dual language program that combines the requirements of the Japanese curriculum and the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years and Diploma Programs.
The Immersion / Bilingual program is a K – 12 program primarily intended for students who’s first language is Japanese. 99% of our students are Japanese. Most students start in the kindergarten or elementary immersion program but we also accept students who have recently returned to Japan after living abroad.
The program is also intended for students from bicultural families or students who are highly motivated and academically gifted but who may have limited skills in English.
The Immersion / Bilingual program is designed for students who expect to go to either Japanese or foreign universities.
Katoh School has dual accreditation. It is an accredited Japanese Ministry of Education school (pre-k through high school) that has integrated the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate into its Bilingual Program at the secondary level. The Bilingual Program is an authorized Middle Years Program (grades 7-10) and Diploma Program (grades 11 & 12) school.
