Jingumae International Exchange School
Jingumae International Exchange School was founded in 2007.
It offers a comprehensive education for all our students and follow the British National Curriculum across all disciplines. This is complemented by our implementation of the International Schools’ Assessment Program which allows us to provide standardised assessments from Year 3 and up which are internationally recognised. On top of this classes are timetabled with Japanese lessons, which, depending on the ability of the individual follow Kokugo, or JAL (Japanese as an additional language).
Jingumae International Exchange School is a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
JIES and neighbouring Japanese state school Jingumae Elementary operate as separate teaching establishments, but we maintain a special relationship which is unique to all international schools in Japan.
This special link that exists between the two schools manifests itself in many different benefits for both our staff and students. Staff from both schools gain the invaluable experience of learning about the education systems operated between different cultures, while both sets of students have the fantastic opportunity to socialise with each other every day, allowing them to develop new and diverse friendships. The close relationship that our students hold with their peers at Jingumae Elementary School is also advantageous in helping develop Japanese language skills. Competent speakers are given the chance to converse with more children of their own age, while learners of Japanese can practice their new speaking skills in real life situations which is integral to their learning of the language.
Jingumae’s preschool and kindergarten is for children of ages 3 through 5 and organized at two levels:
Preschool covers ages 3 and 4
Kindergarten covers age 5
In JIES Preschool and Kindergarten, the learning objectives are based on the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In accordance with EYFS frameworks, we cover six areas in our program, all of which are of equal importance, and are delivered in a planned and purposeful way, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities:
The Primary School is for children of age 6-11 and organized at two levels:
Key Stage 1 (KS1) covers Years 1-2
Key Stage 2 (KS2) covers Years 3-6
School provides many opportunities for students to demonstrate what they have learned. Learning at JIES is generally inquiry-based, and school particularly focuses on developing research, presentation and critical thinking skills.
