Osaka YMCA International School
OYIS remains the city’s first and only accredited (PK-6) International School and strives to be a leading provider of international education for the citizens and residents of Osaka and its environs. OYIS provides a rigorous, challenging and developmentally appropriate educational experience that promotes international mindedness.
In June 2012 OYIS was granted ‘IB World School’ status offering the Primary Years Programme from Preschool to Grade 5. IB World Schools are schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to a high quality, challenging, international education that OYIS believes is important for our students. As an IB World School, OYIS has also become a member of the East Asia Association of International Baccalaureate School Heads (EAAIBSH).
The school announced that in the 2012-2013 school year OYIS has opened a Junior High division (Grades 6/7). This division will expand to Grade 8 in the 2013-2014 school year. In the Junior High division we provide a course framework of academic challenges and life skills, following the Ontario model in the main.
The school is located in Nakatsu on the site of the former Nakatsu Minami Elementary School. The OYIS campus combines spacious classroom facilities, a library/media centre, an IT laboratory, an outdoor swimming pool and a playground set in an environment that is safe and productive. The Nakatsu facility is located near Osaka city centre and is well served by buses and railway lines. It is close to the Osaka Station North District area which is targeted by the City as being a leading centre of innovation.
