Where: Sumida Park, 7-1-22 Asakusa
The ancient skill of horseback archery, or ‘yabusame’, was originally performed at Asakusa Shrine in January as part of the New Year festivities. Resurrected in recent times the event is now carried out in front of delighted spectators in the grounds of Taito City’s Sumida Park. Thrill at the sight of traditionally-clad samurai warriors galloping down the tracks as they raise their bows and release an arrow into their target. Kusajishi and Grass Deer Archery can be observed before the main Yabusame event.
