German photographer Thomas Ruff is the subject of this retrospective at the MOMAT which showcases 125 works from 18 of his photographic series. Highlights include early works “Interieurs” and “Porträts,” which cover the beginning of the artist’s career, “cassini” and “ma.r.s.” reflect Ruff’s childhood interest in outer space, and his recent “nudes” and “jpeg” examine the age of the internet. Also included in the exhibition is his latest series, “press++,” a work inspired by the acquisition of a press photo archive from a newspaper. This is the first retrospective shown in Japan from the world-renowned photographer.
