Although the items that make up the “Refugee Collection” – burned toothbrushes, broken flashlights, and damaged mobile phones – are not the kinds of gifts you’d think to pick up for friends and family, the pieces have a profound significance. Donated by refugees from Somalia to Myanmar, the 100+ items are specially packaged to look innocent on the outside, but each one comes with a booklet that explains the story behind the item and the donor, bringing to life the plight of the refugees in a poignant way. The Refugee Collection will be launched at the White Space Gallery in Omotesando from April 15 to 17, and all proceeds from sales will go to support Refugees International Japan in their global mission. Note: the event begins at 5 pm on Friday, April 15.
