Over the past 25 years, the Tokyo LGBT community has hosted the annual “Tokyo International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival,” now renamed from this year onwards. The group says of the name, “each color of the rainbow has different meanings, and a rainbow is also a symbol of diversity.” Films are a great way to take a deep, intimate look at each of these colors, and gain a deeper understanding of different people’s stories and perspectives.
Hosted and sponsored by a number of local and international NPOs, the Rainbow Reel will be presenting at least 16 LGBT-themed short and full-length feature films at the festival. Actors, directors, and prominent figures will introduce the films and be available for discussions and lectures throughout the event. On the final weekend, “Le Grand Bal” will be held to close out the festival at Spiral Hall.
