Celebrate your Irish heritage – no matter if you hail from Ireland or are 1/16 Irish – Omotesando Street is the place to be this Sunday to celebrate all things green and St. Patrick-y. The Irish Network Japan (INJ) is hosting their annual parade, ongoing since 1992, and now one of the largest Irish events in Asia, in the streets of Harajuku. The holiday celebrates patron Saint Patrick, who introduced Christianity to Ireland after being kidnapped to be a sheep herder in the 5th century.
Usually associated with copious amounts of drinking and a lack of inhibitions, this organized parade is striving to be family friendly, and is prohibiting alcohol and smoking, so proceed with caution, and look for after-events for all of the other jazz. Cheer on the parade participants and get your face painted, pick up Irish goods, and even join in the chorus at the afternoon event looks to paint the streets green! The event is still recruiting volunteers, too. Sign up at the website below.
