At first glance, Shitsu Murayama’s paintings look as if they had been made from a mosaic or collage, but in fact they are actually the result of hand-painted sections combined in a manner that creates a feeling of depth and a strong sense of light and shadow. Murayama’s main subjects are people—frequently children—and his painterly technique creates a fascinating dichotomy between familiar human faces and a technique that tends toward abstraction. Come see the captivating works of this intriguing artist first hand during the month of July.
Note: There will be an Opening Reception from 18:00 to 20:00 on Friday, July 10.
