When: 30/07/16: 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Where: Shinjuku Station East Exit, Shinjuku Station
Bringing the roots of the Okinawan Obon traditional dances and ceremony performances to the streets of Shinjuku, the Eisa festival is unlike local Tokyo summer celebrations. Marking the closing of the Obon holiday period, the festival is meant to bid farewell to the spirits until next year. The taiko beats through the city streets act as a send off, and the traditional garb honors their memory with Okinawan colors and styles.
This event is, undoubtedly, one of the most crowded in the city during the summer. Brace yourself for the droves, but don’t let it hold you back from letting loose and joining in the dance yourself!
