The “shape note” singing tradition has been practiced in the United States for more than two centuries. Still widely used in the Southern U.S., shape note assigns different shapes to each one of the notes in a scale, which can make it easier for beginners to learn how to sight-sing. (Find out more about shape-note singing here.) Give this roots singing style a try with Tim Cook, a master of the form who hails from Alabama, on November 23 at the Ikenoue Youth Center. The workshop is free, but applications must be received by November 9.
