Spend an evening in a world of musical elegance. As reported late last year, the Otowaza project is an ongoing concert series that delves into Japan’s musical past, putting a spotlight on traditional instruments and musical forms – and the performers who are breathing new life into this musical heritage. Otowaza’s upcoming concert will feature Toshihiko Kato, who plays the Japanese bamboo flute and is a disciple of the great Yukihiro Isso. He will be accompanied by percussionist Kisaburo Umehara, shamisen player and singer Yayoi, and dancer Azuki. Kato will be performing a program of Edo period ballads, in a style that is both refined and playful. Drop by this event space close to Roppongi for a Friday evening of traditional entertainment.
