Enfant terrible Lars Von Trier has become one of the biggest names in world cinema since first breaking into the public consciousness with his award winning feature Breaking the Waves in 1996, though he’d been making films for much longer. With a back catalogue of outstanding yet provocative works including Dancer in the Dark, Dogville and Antichrist, von Trier has proved himself a master of his chosen medium and one of the most compelling names in modern cinema. True to form the director’s latest, Nymphomaniac is a five hour plus epic that needed splitting into two parts, both of which you can see back to back at Waseda Shochiku’s double bill.
Charlotte Gainsbourg heads a stellar cast as a self-confessed nymphomaniac recounting her lifetime of sexual experiences.
