Nihon Buyoh is a form of classical Japanese dance that has been practiced for centuries. Some dances have their origins in traditional stories and legends, while even older ones were performed as a way of praying to and giving thanks to the gods. One of the best known modern practitioners of this art in the current generation is Keika Wakayagi, who is the leader of one of the five major Nihon Buyoh groups in Japan. She performs regularly around the country, has given lectures on the art at Kyoto University, and one of her dance performances can be seen as a projection at the International Terminal of Haneda Airport.
Her performance this September is a rare opportunity to see this traditional Japanese theatrical art at one of the most prestigious stages in the country.
