Nara International Film Festival

The fourth edition of the Nara International Film Festival opened on Saturday, September 17 and will run until this Thursday, September 22. 820 artists and filmmakers appeared on the red carpet, donating their fees to participate in an event that was almost cancelled because Nara City cut back on funding.

A number of big names are there, including the youngest ever winner of the la Camera d’Or Award (Best New Director) at the Cannes Film Festival Naomi Kawase, popular actor Takumi Saito and radio presenter Tetsuya Bessho. Highlights include a remake of the award winning film “Like a Rolling Stone,” “The Wolves of the East,” starring Tatsuya Fuji, and “Harmonium” by Cannes-prize-winning director Koji Fukuda.
