Launched in 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival quickly became known as one of the top jazz festivals in the world. And as the years went by, the musical celebration that takes place on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland every July began to expand its horizons, bringing in musicians and bands like Frank Zappa (who – sort of – burned the house down), Parliament-Funkadelic, Queen, Ice-T, and Youssou N’Dour.
The organizers of the Montreux Jazz Festival Japan are bringing a bit of the cross-genre fun to Tokyo during the month of October, with performances by jazzers John McLaughlin and David Sanborn, DJ sets by the legendary Gilles Peterson and Toshio Matsuura, and live performances by many other bands and DJs.
Venues include Liquidroom, Unit, and the Blue Note Tokyo. Check the event site for details.
