Benjamin Boas is an Ivy League grad who picked up his Japanese from video games and comics, and several years after moving to Japan, he’s written a comic of own. This Japanese-language manga, with illustrations by Chika Aoyagi, retells Boas’s initial adventures in Japan, and features appearances by Mario, Ranma ½, Golgo 13, and other well-known characters. The book should be a good read for Japanese learners as well as Japanese people who want to get a better sense of what brings many foreigners to their shores.
The event will feature a talk by Boas and will be emceed by author and journalist Patrick W. Galbraith (“Moe Manifesto”). A Q&A and book signing will follow the talk (you can purchase a copy on the day for ¥1,188), and illustrator Chika Aoyagi will make an appearance as well.
Note: the event will be held in Japanese, but the Q&A session will be bilingual. Seating begins at 1:30 pm
