The third Kyoto International Film and Art Festival (KIFF) kicked off at the World Heritage site Nijo Castle on Thursday, October 13. Over the next few days numerous films and art exhibitions will be showcased around the historic city of Kyoto.
Movie highlights include Charlie Chaplin’s classic “The Great Dictator,” “The Last Samurai” starring Toshiro Mifune, and Yasujiro Ozu’s short films “A Straightforward Boy” and “The Lady and the Beard.” One documentary that is also worth looking out for is “A” by Tatsuya Mori, about Aum Shinrikyo and the sarin gas attack.
For art lovers, there are all kinds of exhibitions ranging from “Dark Science” by Jean-Luc Vilmouth to Shunsuke Kurakata’s “Miniature Building World Exhibition.” Kids may be more interested in Meywa Denki’s “Dr Hige and the Nonsense Machine.”
