Famed for it’s popular punk-rock scene and the highest concentration of vintage shops in Tokyo, Koenji is also well known for one of the busiest and most exciting festivals in the capital. An astounding 12,000 dancers are preparing to perform the awaodori dance to the sounds of traditional festival music (hayashi) during the last weekend in August. Over one million visitors are expected at what has been described as one of the largest festivals in Japan.
