Kiss My Stella Dallas is a screening party of a classic Japanese melodrama featuring a gathering for drinks and conversation before and after the film screening, and the chance to buy rare books and import DVDs from famed bookstore Ouai-za . The well-received first edition sold out pretty quickly so this time around there will be two screenings, at 17:00 and 19:30. The melodrama on show is director Shiro Toyoda’s Wagtail’s Song, its first screening in ten years. Made in 1951, the film features the debut role of actress Ineko Arima, who would achieve legendary status while working with some of the country’s greatest directors, including Yasujiro Ozu, Masaki Kobayashi and Keisuke Kinoshita, during the golden age of Japanese cinema.
