When: 12/04/15 - 19/04/15: 6:00 am - 9:30 am

Where: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, 2-1-31 Yukinoshita

The ancient capital of Kamakura is a popular day trip for its shrines, temples and culture, and the area comes alive more than ever during the Kamakura Festival period. Along with the usual parades of mikoshi (portable shrines) and live music, the festival’s main attractions are the Shizuka no Mai dance, held on the second Sunday of the month, and yabusame horseback archery, held on the third Sunday. The Shizuka no Mai dance tells the tale of Shizuka, one of Japan’s most tragic heroines. Yabusame is the ancient skill of horseback archery involving samurai warriors galloping along a track to shoot an arrow into a target in a feat of incredible skill. Get a taste of some of the country’s most beautiful and unique culture in the picturesque setting of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
