A frequent subject of influential photographer Masahisa Fukase’s lens, his wife Yoko also coined this exhibition’s title—“The Incurable Egoist”—in reference to the fact that whether her husband was shooting her, or anyone else, he was always in fact looking into himself. Bursting onto the scene in 1974 in an exhibition of new-wave Japanese photographers at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Fukase would go on to make a career as one of the leading figures in modern Japanese photography. Although the photographer passed away in 2012, you can experience the allure and magnetism of his images at this exhibition of masterpieces and rare unreleased work.
