Japan’s Cinematic Past: The Toei Jidaigeki

Powerhouse production company Toei was founded in 1951 and quickly became known for its output of jidaigeki—period dramas which often followed the trials and tribulations of the samurai class. The National Film Center is celebrating this golden age of jidaigeki cinema by screening 35 films from the genre.
