In time for Christmas, come hear the masterpieces of Bach . . . in Japanese. This Tokyo-based chorus was established in 1962, and their repertoire covers a wide range of the German composer’s works, such as cantatas, oratorios, motets and masses. Bach-Chor founder Emiko Ohmura studied in Strasbourg, and upon her return she became the conductor of Bach-Chor. The chorus made it a principle to sing in Japanese, to make it accessible to a wider audience, and since then they’ve performed both locally and in Germany.
