Where: Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum , 8-36 Uenokoen
Fans and newcomers to bonsai – the art of creating carefully shaped, diminutive trees – are in for a treat over the next two weekends. Japan’s largest market dedicated to the tiny foliage is going on this weekend at Ueno Park. Artisans from around the country will be bringing their prize pieces in for competition. Drop in both weekends, as the pieces on display are switched during the exhibition. Around the corner from the museum, bonsai can be found for sale at the Ueno Green Club – but keep in mind that picking up one of these horticultural mini-masterpieces is far from a matter of pocket change: prices grow quite quickly!
Note: The exhibition is closed on Tuesday, February 9, and closes at 3:30 pm on 2/8 and 2/13.
