The Weekender countdown of the month’s hottest trending tracks to funk up your playlist.

Sam Smith – “Too Good At Goodbyes”

Finally, the lead single to follow up Sam’s 2014 mega hit album In the Lonely Hour is here, and of course it’s as emotional as ever. Stripped down to vocals and piano at the start, “Too Good At Goodbyes” picks up with a steady beat and climaxes with a gospel choir. Sam sings beautifully about his inability to completely feel love due to past heartbreak.

Jessie Reyez – “Shutter Island”

This 26 year-old Canadian singer has yet to break into the mainstream, but we think it’s only a matter of time. “Shutter Island” is full of attitude where Jessie details her crazy, bi-polar relationship approach. “Goodness graciously” mad.

Hurts – “Something I Need To Know”

Hurts are English synth-pop duo Adam Anderson and Theo Hutchcraft. Their album Desire was released a few weeks ago and “Something I Need To Know” is a subtly brilliant ballad that is our standout album track.

U2 and Kygo – “You’re The Best Thing About Me”

Kygo is one of the most in-demand EDM DJs of the moment and he collaborates with Irish rock legends U2 on this superb dance number. “You’re The Best Thing About Me” is a warm festival stomper that will inspire a winter escape.

Nathan Sykes – “Kiss Me Quick”

We first heard this song in a packed Shibuya bar and immediately guessed that it must be a hot new Cee Lo Green or Bruno Mars track. Shazam told us otherwise, and it was in fact ex-The Wanted singer Nathan Sykes’ solo effort. “Kiss Me Quick” is an up-tempo soul twister and the pint-sized boy certainly can sing.

Zayn and Sia – “Dusk Till Dawn”

“Dusk Till Dawn” is the comeback single from moody British singer Zayn. With this he enlists Sia, responsible for some of the biggest pop songs of recent years, in a grand mid-tempo duet accompanied by a megabucks dramatic video.

BTS – “DNA”

Summer lives on as BTS – K-Pop’s most successful export this year – release “DNA.” The song has the BTS’s distinctive notes all over it and some noticeable US hip hop pop influences (we can totally imagine this remixed by Tyga and Chris Brown, or Gucci Mane!).

Dua Lipa – “New Rules”

Surely a staple playlist track for most of us this fall has been “New Rules”. This is a girl power dance pop hit from the sultry voiced Brit, and we love the colourful and sexy video.
