The Aman Hotel is the go-to venue for the stylish and business crowd, and their Black Bar is one of the hottest places to be seen in Tokyo. We visit the luxury space to bring you the low down on its fabulous Free Flow menu.

Where is it?

The Aman Tokyo sits on the top six floors of the Otemachi Tower so expect unparalleled views of the city. Otemachi is Tokyo’s bustling financial district packed with office skyscrapers and impeccably dressed city boys and girls.

What’s the deal?

The Black Bar currently offers a pretty incredible Free Flow deal, whereby for ¥7,800 (plus service) you get to enjoy two hours worth of unlimited cocktails and a tier of appetizers. All items are of course, themed to the color black.

When’s it on?

Every day between 5:30pm until 10pm. We suggest coming up to the tower just before sunset to enjoy both shades of the city. Despite going on a Saturday night, the atmosphere was the perfect mix of tranquil and thrilling.

What is there to drink?

This is the fun part – for 120 minutes it’s all you can drink with regards to black-themed cocktails. These include the Aman Black Espresso Martini, Black Rum Mojito and the Black Berry Cooler. Our favourite was the Black Chocolate Manhattan.

And the food?

Savories including marinated black olives, prosciutto and black pepper, and black garlic toast are served on stylish black pyramid stands by Japanese lacquerware maker Echizen Urushi.

Anything else?

For those that wish to indulge further, for ¥11,000 you can enjoy a champagne version of the Free Flow deal instead.

What’s the dress code?

Smart and stylish. It could be tempting for your party to all turn up in black but that would be a little depressing.

And was it actually fun?

With a bar this elegant, you’d rightly think that it’s all just photos and small talk, but with the free flow deal we found that guests were notably more relaxed and sociable. Pair this up with breathtaking views of our favorite city in the world, the evening quickly turned into magic under the stars in a setting of luxury, without feeling stuffy or pretentious.
