At first glance, new yakiniku restaurant Irori Yakiniku Shibaura, 30 minutes from the closest station, doesn’t exactly seem ideally situated.

But its location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and along the No and Sen Rivers, is actually part of its charm. The barbeque restaurant, which opened April 29, is draped in reds and other vibrant colors that evoke a nostalgic, Edo-period atmosphere. Equipped with a traditional irori fireplace and serving up wagyu beef, it’s perfect for friends, family and dates, and while we recommend arriving by leisurely river stroll, it’s also got plenty of parking.
