USN & Subject Matter Pop Up Gallery and Store: this cool new temporary gallery and store is what happens when two Tokyo creative staples, Subject Matter and UltraSuperNew, team up to promote art and design.

We didn’t think UltraSuper New and Subject Matter could get any cooler, but they did when they announced the upcoming opening of a new gallery and concept store – Tokyo can never get too many galleries, and we’ll be making a beeline for this particular one as soon as they launch it on September 20.

If you’ve been living around Tokyo for a bit, you’re most likely with familiar with Subject Matter, which specializes in limited edition photographic art, promoting work from photographers all around the world – they even have branches in London and Montreal. As for UltraSuperNew, if the name doesn’t ring a bell, we guarantee you’ve consumed products from the marketing agency’s clients: their roster includes both Red Bull and Heineken.

“This pop up gallery and concept store is born from the desire to make original art and design approachable, accessible and affordable”

The gallery will be located in Harajuku, and we think the first exhibit probably sets the tone… Entitled “Four Legs Good Two Legs Bad”, it will feature, you guessed it, animals and humans. Not only can you admire the photos, but you can also purchase works from designers and artists on the premises.

The photo exhibit itself will showcase attention-grabbing pieces from photographer Yago Partal, “Zoo Portraits”, with animals sporting human getups – some of which are pictured above.

Subject Matter Founder and Curator Liezel Strauss says about USN & Subject Matter Pop Up Gallery and Store, ”We are very excited about this collaboration with USN, we share a deep passion for art and design and challenging the conventional art buying experience. This pop up gallery and concept store is born from the desire to make original art and design approachable, accessible and affordable.”
