Bo Xilai, the disgraced former Communist Party politician, has today been stripped of his final official position, the most significant result ofwhich is that he no longer has immunity from prosecution.
The move, expelling him from congress, was largely a formality and comes ahead of a criminal case in which he will face investigation into alleged interference in the investigation into the murder of Neil Heywood, the british businessman.
Bo’s wife and household aide were convicted of Heywood’s murder last month. Authorities have not announced the specific charges Bo will face but it is thought old allegations of taking bribes and having improper relationships during his time in power will form part of the investigations.
He has not been seen in public since mid-March and is believed to be under detention at a Beijing prison, according to AP.
