Chinese media criticized US presidential candidate Mitt Romney over cutting language directed at China, AFP reports.
Xinhua news agency claimed that Beijing is often lashed at during elections and warned that it could drive a wedge between relations with Washington. “It is high time for him to drop the ‘blame-China game’ that frequently emerged on his campaign trail in the past several months,” the state run news agency said.
Romney took a swipe at President Barack Obama’s “weak” stance on China after rejecting a deal involving F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan which Beijing contested. Romney also called China a “currency manipulator” and pledged to impose sanctions. Obama’s foreign policies include the “pivot to Asia” policy, deploying military in part of Asia Pacific to keep an eye on the rising power amid tensions over territorial disputes in the region. Obama also placed sanctions on a Chinese bank over transactions with Iran.
