Japanese Foreign Minister, Koichiro Gemba, and French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, met on the sidelines of the NATO summit to strengthen non-nuclear energy co-operation between the two countries.

The bilateral co-operation on energy will encompass green technology. The new French foreign minister agreed on the necessity of the matter and made arrangements on an extensive diplomatic meeting to bring Japanese-French relations to the “highest levels”.

Japan also hopes to launch a free trade agreement with the EU, Fabius proposing thorough discussions on the matter. The two countries will also strengthen cooperation in addressing major global and regional issues through strategic foreign ministerial dialogue in Tokyo.
