Inaugurated in 2001 as the leading tri-annual international exhibition of contemporary art in Japan, the Yokohama Triennale was subsequently held in 2005 and 2008, attracting a total of one million visitors to date. This year’s edition, “Our Magic Hour,” which marks the 10th anniversary of its founding, is accompanied by programs that encourage participants to “look, nurture, and connect.”

Yokohama Triennale 2011 is taking place both outdoors and indoors at two main venues, the Yokohama Museum of Art and BankART Studio NYK. It includes artworks by just over 60 contemporary artists (including the likes of Yoko Ono) and also some from the museum’s collection. From site-specific installations and media work to modern painting and historical objects (such as Coptic tapestry fragments), the exhibition includes a wide range of artworks in terms of both age and material.

Yokohama Triennale is open until November 6th.
