It’s no secret that Hokkaido is home to some of Japan’s most amazing food – gigantic crab, silky uni, ultra-creamy milk, fresh produce.  Among Hokkaido’s many gastronomic contributions are ghengis khan barbecue (grilled mutton) and soft nama caramels.  But genghis khan flavored caramels?  Definitely one of the wackiest flavors I’ve come across, and clearly an acquired taste.

If soft, chewy caramels that taste like spiced lamb isn’t your cup of tea, there’s also corn, Sapporo beer and red wine flavored caramels, in addition to the ubiquitous Hokkaido milk caramels.
