There are over 500 archaeological sites in Kawasaki City and half of them are from the Jomon Period. Recently, the oldest Jomon ruin was discovered in Aso Ward, proving that Jomon people were already living in Kawasaki some 13000 years ago.

Some say that the global warming started at the beginning of the Jomon Period. A rise in sea level due to this phenomenon can be analyzed closely by researching the kinds of Jomon shells and the distribution of shell mounds in Kawasaki.
