Atsuyuki Uemura (1933-) is one of the leading contemporary painters of flowers and birds in traditional Japanese style. His father and grand mother too were prominent painters.

Uemura relocated himself to “Reikin-so”, Nara, where his grand mother Shoen spent the last years of her life, and painted the birds that he kept. His style is based on the symbolic space typical of traditional Japanese painting but he adds his own personal touch to express the beauty of the birds in their natural surroundings.
